CarMax [KMX] - Last Close: $78.32 A strong earnings report is boosting shares of CarMax. The auto retailer reported its fiscal Q1 earnings early Friday, and the results topped expectations. CarMax earned $1.44 per share in its fiscal Q1, down from $1.56 a year earlier, but better than the Street's $0.83 target. Revenues also fell by 17% to $7.69 billion for the quarter, which also beat the consensus of $7.52 billion. However, CarMax's comp sales fell by (-11.4%), exceeding investors' (-10.8%) forecast. KMX is this morning's top S&P 500 stock with a 6.1% gain. My Take: KMX has performed surprisingly well this year, but it's facing stiff resistance at $80 per share. It will be interesting to see if the stock can hold onto its gains. ConforMIS [CFMS] - Last Close: $1.16 ConforMIS is rallying after announcing a buyout deal. The MedTech company has agreed to be acquired by privately-held personalized 3d-printed orthopedic company restor3d in an all-cash deal. restor3d will pay $2.27 per share to acquire the company, a 95% premium to CFMS's Thursday closing price. ConfirMIS' board of directors has already voted unanimously to approve the measure, and the companies expect to close the deal sometime in Q3. CFMS is up 90.5% on news of the lucrative buyout deal. My Take: CFMS hit the ball out of the park on this one, but I am not sure if there's a lot of upside left in the stock at this point. A strategically-timed options trade could be worth exploring if prices remain below the acquisition bid. Nuvve [NVVE] - Last Close: $0.4553 A big announcement is boosting shares of Nuvve Holdings. The green energy tech firm announced the launch of its Astrea AI technology to optimize revenues for Nordic transmission system & V2G fleet customers. The AI continuously forecasts prices and capacity for Nordic primary reserves to optimize energy market bids. Astrea AI forecasts have shown 97% accuracy and help to maximize revenues with the right bid matched to available fleet capacity. CEO Gregory Poilasne said the AI "makes energy markets easier and more accurate to predict, enabling us to further optimize revenue..." NVVE is trading actively with a 53.7% gain in today's premarket. My Take: Another AI buzzword rally, but who knows if Astrea AI will live up to the hype? NVVE also has a 6.83% short rate, which could be accelerating today's rally. Rail Vision [RVSN] - Last Close: $0.5896 Rail Vision is rebounding after securing a multimillion-dollar cash injection. After Wednesday's close, the railway systems firm announced the closing of a $3 million private placement with its largest shareholder. Rail Vision said it issued almost 3.95 million ordinary shares and the same number of five-year warrants exercisable at $0.84 per share. The purchase price of one share and one warrant was $0.76, and the aggregate gross proceeds from this placement were $3 million. Shares of RVSN fell on Thursday following the release of the news, but they're rebounding in today's premarket. RVSN is up 13.3% in early trading. My Take: CFMS hit the ball out of the park on this one, but I am not sure if there's a lot of upside left in the stock at this point. A strategically-timed options trade could be worth exploring if prices remain below the acquisition bid.
