Lemur loose: A daring escape

The woods around San Francisco are filled with plenty of interesting animals, but we’d say lemurs are a far cry from what anyone would expect. A 21-year-old male lemur named Maki was stolen from his enclosure at the San Francisco Zoo, and police on the scene found signs of forced entry. Whoever took the lemur was willing to risk getting caught, and the discovery prompted a man(lemur)hunt that spanned the entire city.

After a day of searching, Maki was found safe and sound in Daly City — just a few miles south of the zoo. Maki had apparently freed himself from his captor and took refuge in a local playground, and he’s finally getting some well-deserved rest in his enclosure with his entire family. Thank goodness it’s a happy ending. Animals are actually pretty smart about escaping dangerous situations.
