FBI action at SW&B: The FBI was at the New Orleans Sewerare & Water Board's New Orleans offices this morning, conducting what the feds cryptically called a “law enforcement activity.” Hmmm, kinda sounds like some sort of raid. This comes a day after a WWL-TV investigation found what it called a “web of self-dealing” linked to the beleaguered city agency. Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
Cancer hotspots: Louisiana’s chemical corridor, that stretch between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, is the focus of a new analysis by an investigative news agency. ProPublica’s reporting shows the corridor contains several spots where the cancer risk is much higher than what the EPA says is acceptable.
Good COVID news: Finally, some good news on the pandemic front. There are now fewer COVID patients in Louisiana’s hospitals than at any time during the pandemic. (Insert sigh of relief here.) You’ll recall how bad it was just a few months ago.
Oh, weekends. We've missed you: And directly related to that decline in COVID cases, you might have noticed some festivals and events making a return. The weather’s been fab, and the weekend's are getting much busier, Ian McNulty writes.
Starting Saint: So, it's Trevor Siemian? Sean Payton has been characteristically tight-lipped, but reports floating around this morning say the Saints will go with Siemian as the starting quarterback on Sunday. He gets the nod over Taysom Hill against the Falcons. Wonder if this means we’ll see Hill in his featured “Swiss Army knife” role? Stay tuned to our Saints coverage on NOLA.com.
