My dad is 70 and I have been celebrating Father's Day with him for quite a few years now. It is a difficult task to think about what to get for a man who has everything. I am sure many of you are facing the same challenges as me.
So, here is what I did:
I asked myself what will be good for him to improve his everyday life.
To me, I noticed that he is getting older and since he retired, he isn't doing much and I am kind of worried about his brain deterioration. I found out writing helps to improve the memory and also helps him practise his fine motor skills (this is one of the reasons why I got involved and co-founded the ana tomy).
I don't get to see him as often as I like because I'm currently staying in Malaysia while he resides in Singapore. I came up with the idea to get him started with journaling, writing down his daily activities. I will do the same and we can exchange journals to read about each other's journal when we meet up.
This helped me get closer to each other as we became a lot more up to date with each other's lives rather than catching up or chat briefly when we meet up or over a short phone call.
I am not saying that this is what you should do, but sometimes when we think a little differently, think about what would be truly good for him rather than just another material gift that has little meaning at all.
