Shalom, David here. I'd like to share a quick story with you that happened to one of our volunteers. As you know, the food prices in Israel have been rising at an unprecedented rate. The same basket of produce costs almost 60% more this year than last year. One of our volunteers, Guy Salomon, shared a disturbing incident he witnessed with his own eyes the other day: "I was shopping at a supermarket, buying groceries for Shabbat. As I was leaving, I saw a totally decent-looking woman in her 40s approached by the security guard as she was about to leave the store. The guard forced her to open her tote bag, where they found a bag of milk and a frozen chicken". After the incident, Guy approached this woman to learn what had happened. The woman was extraordinarily embarrassed, and while sobbing, she shared with us that she is a single mother with no help from family or friends. She was laid off months ago and saw no other option to feed her two daughters. Needless to say, on behalf of Feed Israel, Guy offered her help with groceries to ease the immediate burden. We also tapped into our network to help her find a sustainable job in her area. This was almost non-existent in Israel just a year ago, and now we keep hearing of similar incidents more and more. We at Feed Israel stand with the people of Israel. Our programs are focused on helping those who suffer the most by providing them with food, resources, and education to get through these difficult times. |
