The state reported 2,204 cases, up just a few dozen from Wednesday. Testing was up to its highest point since the weekend, to nearly 50,000 new tests. That's helped push the positivity rate below a benchmark 5 percent point for only the fifth time this month. That may indicate the spread of the virus is slowing further. Deaths remain substantially above the rolling 7-day average for a second straight day, although another key metric, new hospital admissions, has hit its lowest point since before Election Day. The number of active, confirmed cases in the state has also fallen below 15,000 for the first time since Halloween. Attorney General Keith Ellison has sought a contempt of court order against a Lakeville bar. The Alibi Drinkery was shut down earlier by a court after defying the state’s pandemic restrictions. The Alibi renewed its defiance and reopened today for a New Year’s Eve celebration, even as more court action was pending against the bar. State authorities are also stepping up legal action against an event center in Winnebago, which is also threatening to open for a New Year’s Eve gathering.
