State of the Art/Art of the State
Tonight: Thursday, April 26, 6:30-7:30 PM
Artists Glenice McNeal (Port City Blue, photography), Roy Taylor (A mess in June, metal and wood), Peter Thibodeau (God of the Sea, photography), and Peggy Vineyard (Puttin' on the Ritz, acrylic), whose works are on view in CAM's current exhibition State of the Art/Art of the State, come together for an informal conversation on their art work. Join in the discussion about their inspiration and process. Before and after the program (6-8 PM) enjoy the classical guitar music of Nash Kelly while you dine in CAM Café.

Nash Kelly is a senior at UNCW pursuing a B.A. in guitar performance with a minor in jazz studies, studying under Dr. Justin Hoke and Robert Nathanson.  During his time at UNCW, Kelly has played in multiple Department of Music Honors Recitals and currently is a student guitar instructor for the department's Community Music Academy program.

Come for this special presentation featuring members of the upcoming summer production of Die Fledermaus, Shannon Kessler Dooley (soprano), John Dooley (baritone) and Cera Finney (mezzo soprano), along with Opera Wilmington favorites Michael Rallis (tenor), Carl Samet (bass-baritone) and Nancy King (soprano), on a musical journey through some of the most beloved operatic, operetta and musical theatre songs from movies past and present.

Robin Gee and
Andrew Hayes

Delve into the body of work of artists Robin Gee and Andrew Hayes whose work is currently on view in CAM's exhibition NC Arts Council Artist Fellowship 2017 Award ExhibitionRobin Gee specializes in African, Caribbean, and Modern dance techniques, weaving power and inspiration from the living traditions of African dance and music within her own personal culture, history and American context of race, place and belonging. Andrew Hayes grew up in Tucson, Arizona and studied sculpture at Northern Arizona University. The desert landscape inspired his early work and style in fabricated steel, informing his current work while exploring a variety of materials and techniques including the book as a form.
Treat yourself and take a workshop with Robin Gee ("Dance and the Camera") or Andrew Hayes ("The Book As Material") May 4-6 through CAM's Museum School, register online or by phone. Workshop registration includes seats to this lecture.

Featured in the performance is the spectacular "Carmen Suite", based upon the unforgettable melodies of George Bizet's famous opera in a wonderfully clever arrangement by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet's founder William Kanengiser. The works of living composers Terry Riley and Geraldo Támez along with flamenco inspired "Introduction and Fandango" by Luigi Boccherini will also be part of the program.
