Do people of faith recognize their religion when it appears on the big screen?

Rebecca Olds was interested in hearing how people of other faiths feel about how their religion is portrayed in the media, so she watched movies and TV shows that depict other faith traditions with practicing members of those faith traditions.

Here's what she watched:

  • "Little Mosque on the Prairie" and "Ms. Marvel" with practicing Muslims.
  • "Charmed" and "Good Witch" with practicing Wiccans.
  • "Under the Banner of Heaven" with practicing Latter-day Saints.
  • "Father Stu" with practicing Catholics.

She asked the people she watched with to rate how accurately they believed their religion was shown in what they watched together.

Read more about how the people she watched with ranked how their faith tradition was portrayed onscreen.

Sen. Mike Lee wants to curb government spying on U.S. citizens

A bipartisan group of senators, including Utah Sen. Mike Lee, unveiled new legislation Tuesday that would require the U.S. intelligence community to obtain a warrant before spying on Americans.

The White House immediately tried to squash the bill, saying President Joe Biden would veto it.
