As we approach the end of any year, we begin to look forward to the new one – and in 2020 it’s felt like a year like no other that we’re keen to see the back of! Looking further ahead, Formula 1’s next-generation engine formula is going to be key to its future. With no excuses for short-termism, the future hybrid engines need to be affordable enough for a team like Red Bull to commit to its own programme. Perhaps that will be hand-in-hand with an automotive manufacturer, perhaps not. If we’re going to have a truly economically-sustainable F1, we need the correct building blocks putting in the process. And there’s no piece of the puzzle more important than the engine. Charles Bradley, Global Editor in Chief Motorsport.com |
