Formula 1 makes its World Championship debut at the Algarve International Circuit this weekend, and I’ve watched Grand Prix cars there in the flesh already – albeit from decades ago! It was 2010 when I visited the then-still-new track near Portimao to see the FIA Historic F1 cars in action, as my old mates Bobby Verdon-Roe and Andy Meyrick duked it out in their epic McLaren and Arrows 1980s racers. And what a venue it is, the 2.8-mile track boasting some epic sweeping bends and dramatic elevation changes. In some ways it’s quite similar to Mugello, and that served up a great race a few weeks ago. No reason we can’t have another modern classic this weekend, either.
