Krishnamurti Foundation of America

Self-knowledge is not a thing to be bought in books, nor is it the outcome of a long painful practice and discipline, but it is awareness, from moment to moment, of every thought and feeling as it arises in relationship. Relationship is not on an abstract, ideological level but an actuality, the relationship with property, with people, and with ideas. Relationship implies existence and, as nothing can live in isolation, to be is to be related.

Our conflict is in relationship, at all the levels of our existence, and the understanding of this relationship, completely and extensively, is the only real problem that each one has. This problem cannot be postponed nor be evaded. The avoidance of it only creates further conflict and misery; the escape from it only brings about thoughtlessness, which is exploited by the crafty and the ambitious.

This year’s Explorations Conference will be held from Friday, May 4, through Sunday, May 6, 2018, at the Krishnamurti Center in Ojai.

The conference will address the theme of “relationship” and “the mirror of relationship,” with a focus on the problem of conflict in human relationship. Various dimensions of this theme will be examined from a range of perspectives that span not only Krishnamurti’s body of work, but also those from contemporary evolutionary and developmental neuroscience, psychology, sociology, anthropology and philosophy.

The intent of featuring these different and often divergent perspectives is to sharpen our understanding of the content and principles guiding these viewpoints and their boundary conditions, in order to precipitate unexpected connections as well as the possibility of a more unified and coherent set of insights.

We invite you to our Annual May Gathering at the Krishnamurti Center in Ojai. Friends both local and from around the world come to listen to speakers, participate in dialogues, attend workshops, or simply enjoy the beauty of our campus. Choose from different programs on topics such as Consciousness and Education, or engage with teachers from our schools and scholars of Krishnamurti’s teachings who share their understanding.

This year’s gathering, titled Insights Into Education, will feature several educators from the various Krishnamurti Schools across the world and other speakers. Krishnamurti’s vision of education goes beyond creating good alternative, holistic education. He often stated that the purpose of education is to bring about freedom, love, “the flowering of goodness” and the complete transformation of society. During this Gathering we have various speakers addressing the educational challenges presented to us and discuss what this implies for the educational environments we are creating. The Annual Gathering is a free event and open to anyone.
