Strap yourself in for a rollercoaster re-imagination of the Roman poet’s myths.
The Roman poet Ovid has been overshadowed by another o-v-i-d ending word for the last 18 months, but it’s finally time to celebrate his stories, myths and fables in this new play, Metamorphoses (on now until October 30).
An influence on the Globe’s original occupier, Ovid’s tales have been re-imagined by Shakespeare’s Globe’s first writers-in-residence in nearly four centuries – Sami Ibrahim, Laura Lomas and Sabrina Mahfouz. The piece ranges from the everyday to the astonishing, and the ordinary to the unimaginable, and is directly inspired by Ovid’s collection’s themes.
Taking place in the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse (Shakespeare’s Globe’s warm, dry and roofed inside venue), the intimate performance features just four actors, a hundred props and one burning chariot of fire.
But hurry – ‘Metamorphoses’ is running now and ending on October 30! With tickets available from just £5, this is one piece of theatre you won’t want to miss this autumn.
