Everything you wanted to know about LSU's regional (but were afraid to ask)

Greetings from Destin, Florida.

We're here and there, there being Alex Box Stadium, to bring you the constant variety in sports.

OK, we're here to bring you the SEC Spring Meeting and the NCAA baseball regional, but we've got to work with what we've got.

We'll start with our primer on the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, with breakdowns of all four teams: LSU (I think you guessed that one), Tulane (ditto), Oregon State and Sam Houston.

It's been a long time between regionals at Alex Box, a record length of time since LSU hosted its first one in 1986. But it's sort of like riding a bike, isn't it?

A bit of football scheduling news out of Destin (no, not that news of a new schedule format) but times and networks for LSU's home opener against Grambling and its SEC opener at Mississippi State. Never too early to plan those watch parties and tailgates.

Coaches here are more worried about tampering with their players nudging them toward the transfer portal than they are about scheduling. But can anything be done? Let's discuss.

The SEC is concerned with fans rushing the field or courts after their team's big win (you know who you are). The conference has a fine structure in place, but to no effect. Honestly, do you think a boozed up fraternity boy is going to think, "Uh oh, I'd better not go over the fence, my team might get fined."

Um, no.

But what to do? The SEC is looking into it but so far, no new answers.

It's nice to see the fire between Texas and Texas A&M, thrust back together in the SEC when Texas joins the league in 2024, hasn't cooled. Not from Jimbo Fisher's perspective, anyway. Read on to find out what's got a burr under his saddle now (and how LSU figures into this).

Finally, a round of applause for LSU distance runner Jackson Martingayle, who is being honored here Thursday as the SEC's H. Boyd McWhorter male scholar-athlete of the year.

That's all for today, kids. Stay tuned Thursday for more updates from here in Destin and from The Box.
