Good evening, Despite today's announcement that some towns are to see local restrictions lifted, it seems likely that more parts of the county will head towards 'local lockdowns 'as cases of Covid-19 rise in certain areas. Here in Lancashire, we still have multiple places under restrictions and there are even more over the border in Greater Manchester. And yet, still we are hearing tales of illegal raves, parties and smaller gatherings taking place in areas where they have been temporarily banned. And while people have been fined, the punshment is usually derisory. We all understand the frustration of not being able to visit the places we did before in the numbers we did, but despite social media commentary to the contrary, it is unlikely that the Government would be deliberately holding back economic recovery if there was not a good reason for it.
And that reason has not gone away.
People are still dying from Covid-19, albeit not in the huge numbers we saw in April, and if we want to keep those numbers as low as possible, then all of us have to make sacrifices. We’ve come this far together - surely we can all put up with restrictions for a little bit longer? Take care, Gillian Parkinson Editor |
