Japanese researchers have uncovered a disturbing link between the common bacteria Streptococcus anginosus and stroke risk. This microscopic menace, which usually minds its own business in your mouth and gut, might not be as harmless as we thought. The findings, presented at the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference 2025, are eye-opening, to say the least. When researchers analyzed the cases of recent stroke victims, they found something alarming. Those with higher levels of this bacteria in their mouth were significantly more likely to either die or suffer another major cardiovascular event within two years. In other words, this uninvited guest could be plotting a deadly sequel. But the good news is you can do plenty to show these bacterial bullies the door. And you don't need expensive drugs or complicated treatments. You just need some good oral hygiene habits instead:Commit to brushing your teeth thoroughly at least twice daily.Don't skip the floss—those tiny spaces between your teeth are bacterial breeding grounds.Replace your toothbrush every three months (sooner if the bristles are frayed).Bacteria LOVE sugar, so swap out sugary drinks for water.Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleaningsUse an alcohol-free antimicrobial mouthwash.Add more vitamin C-rich foods like strawberries to your diet to support gum health.Smoking is like rolling out the red carpet for harmful bacteria so QUIT.You’ll never hear it from the mainstream medicine crowd, but sometimes the simplest solutions ARE the most effective. Think about it. When was the last time you really gave your mouth the attention it deserves? If you're like most folks, you might be cutting corners here and there. But with stroke risk on the line, can you really afford to? The connection between oral health and stroke risk isn't just a theory any longer. Research shows that what's happening in your mouth can be a crystal ball for your future health. Health and Happiness, Dr. Scott Olson, ND P.S. PREDICT a stroke with this “Triple Threat” method. Ed.
