The Lunch Line: Evacuation reimbursements. And power, deaths and schools

By Bob Warren

Check, please: Did you flee the hurricane and run up big bills? The state says it expects insurers to cover evacuation expenses, even in parishes that didn’t issue a formal get-out order.

And if you have FEMA questions, we have some answers here.

Light us up: Power restoration in the New Orleans area took another step forward yesterday. This morning Entergy said nearly all of New Orleans is back and around 75% of Jefferson Parish.

Ida’s death toll: On Wednesday, Hurricane Ida's death toll stood at 26, the state Department of Health said.  That includes 13 in New Orleans.

Among the notable passings:

  • New Orleans photographer Lauren Bergerol
  • Ed "Cowboy" Lewis, who helped veterans down on their luck

School’s in: School will be back in session in several areas next week. St. Tammany announced it will reopen public schools on Sept. 13, joining St. Bernard Parish and the Archdiocese of New Orleans. New Orleans public schools begin reopening Sept. 15. Here’s our tracker of school reopenings.

New in Black and Gold: Finally, the Saints made a big move that's expected to shore up a weak spot. Jeff Duncan says the addition of cornerback Bradley Roby will make the defense downright scary. (Unrelated, but funny: Aaron Rodgers' reax to another Jeff Duncan column.)

Thanks for taking a break with the Lunch Line today. Stay safe.
