Semi-transparent or shielded – a new type of ETF coming soon
The middle of November saw the US’s SEC announce its intention to approve a number of new structures which will allow active funds to cover their portfolios with a new type of ETF wrapper. We bring you an interview with Blue Tractor Group, whose Shielded Alpha wrapper allows a high degree of transparency on the underlying ETF but not enough to give away all its secrets. We also have an interview with Danny Dolan of China Post Global on the outperformance of Gold BUGS, his gold mining ETF which has seen twice the performance of the gold price. Dolan explains that gold mining companies have been busy sorting out their houses, allowing the rising gold price to give them greater profits. This week also sees publication of the two reports drawn from ETF Express’s inaugural ETF awards in New York, held in mid-October. Read the US Best Practices and US Strategy Masters reports here. Finally, voting is now open for the ETF Express European Awards. We have partnered with Morningstar who have provided a pre-selection of managers based on their research. Morningstar analysed the activity of firms and companies in Europe from 31 October 2018 to 1 November 2019 to provide options for each category, except those subjective in nature. Unless otherwise specified in the category title, analysis was limited to the ETF space. Please place your votes here.
