| The law of unintended consequences Tune in now to the second in our new podcast series, in association with TrussEdge. This month, we feature Jeff Prestridge, a personal finance journalist of many years standing, and Personal Finance Editor of The Mail on Sunday and The Daily Mail, plus Allan Lane, co-founder of Algo-Chain. We discussed ETFs and their relatively slow uptake by retail investors in the UK with Jeff putting the responsibility for that firmly in the court of ETF marketing material, which he describes as ‘almost unpalatable’. Allan cited the law of unintended consequences, picked up by Jeff, who matched it with the result of RDR in the UK leading to a lack of financial advice for most people. Listen now and do email me via our website with your thoughts and comments. Off the Record – the law of unintended consequences Our big features this week include an interview with Alexandra Russo, Head of ESG Client Portfolio Management for the US & UK with Candriam, who explained that the power of the ‘G’ in the ESG formula is all important, in this case, keeping them out of Credit Suisse. "Governance is always important," Russo says, "but no one factor is more important than the others. We want to understand what is most material in the industry the company is operating in and in financial services, governance is hugely material, so a lack of strong governance is likely to cause some problems down the road." Our Paris-based correspondent, Romain Thomas talked with KraneShares’ Dr Xiaolin Chen this week on their entry to the French market. She confirmed that the firm is committed to Europe and plans to continue its expansion across the region. Canada’s NEO exchange has become Cboe Canada this week with its rebranding completed. You have one more day to nominate service providers in the ETF industry in Canada with nominations ending end of Friday 28th, and Monday sees the opening of the voting process for both service providers and ETF issuers as we publish the shortlists for both.
