Establish effective oversight of the peer review process

With suicide rates among physicians far outpacing those in other professions, researchers at UC San Diego Health attempted to better understand the job stressors that contribute to the problem. To do this, they reviewed the death investigation narratives from 200 physician suicides collected by the National Violent Death Reporting System between 2003 and 2018.

The oversight function of the peer review process involves all the actions necessary to oversee the process to ensure that it is done correctly. The oversight function is not always familiar to physicians because in many hospitals, the peer review process is not organized to perform it.

The U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Tennessee (the “Court”) recently dismissed a registered nurse’s claim against her employer that it violated her constitutional rights to procedural and substantive due process when it mandated that all healthcare employees be vaccinated against COVID-19.

The plaintiff, Rachel Clark, is employed at Erlander Hospital in Chattanooga, and sued its CEO and president William Jackson over the vaccine mandate. The Court found that Clark failed to plausibly allege any of her claims.
