| | | | | Tourism Australia Update | This week is NAIDOC Week and the theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!. With celebrations held across Australia to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all of us to learn a little more, so make sure you check out what events are being held in your local area. Last week, with the release of the 2021 Census results, we gained an interesting insight into the changing profile of Australian families. With over 50 per cent of Australians either being born overseas or having a parent born overseas, it helps to explain why visiting friends and relatives is such an important tourism driver, and why it is the first segment to be returning as we emerge from the pandemic. In another positive step for our industry, Australia lifts all international border COVID-19 restrictions today, including the Digital Passenger Declaration. Read more here. Earlier today, Tourism Australia hosted the Tourism Leaders’ Lunch in partnership with Tourism New Zealand. Discussion with special guests was centred around the theme of ‘Achieving an Enduring and Regenerative Tourism Recovery’. Read more below. We would also like to acknowledge the passing of industry leader Bill Spurr AO this week. Bill’s passion and contribution to the tourism industry, particularly in South Australia was unmatchable and we have lost a true advocate and friend. Our sympathies go out to Bill’s family, friends, and colleagues. Phillipa Harrison | | | |
