20 November 2024Tourism Australia UpdateLast week saw Tourism Australia lead a delegation of State and Territory Tourism Organisations and Convention Bureaux leaders to New Delhi and Mumbai in India, in a high impact program to engage with leisure and business events stakeholders in this important tourism market. Finally, today some changes to our board were announced The four-day program included a series of meetings with over 600 representatives from airlines and key distribution partners as well as workshops with Aussie Specialist Program travel agents and business events decision makers at a critical time for this market, which was our first market to get back to 2019 levels and has now returned to steady growth. With the summer cricket season approaching, there will be plenty of opportunities to ensure that Australia is top of mind in India.
We also wrapped up our series of industry briefings across the country, with the final two for 2024 held in Adelaide / Tarntanya and Hobart / nipaluna last week. Thank you to everyone who took the time to join us, and sharing your insights with us also. At the most recent briefings, we also shared some of the key findings from the Future of Distribution report, in partnership with Deloitte, which has now been published and is available here.
Coming up we have our next webinar on Friday 29 November at 11am AEDT where you will have the opportunity to hear from our special guest Keely Cat-Wells, who is an Entrepreneur and Disability Rights Advocate committed to driving social, systemic, and economic change. Keeping with our India theme we will also be joined by Nishant Kashikar, Tourism Australia’s Country Manager for India. To register click here.
Finally, today some changes to our board were announced by our Minister, Senator the Hon Don Farrell. Joining the board are Ms Jenny Lambert OAM, The Hon Michael Lee, Mr Tim Yeend and Mr Peter Laurance AO. The new look Board will be led by serving members Mrs Penny Fowler who has been appointed Chair and, Mr Ian Horne who has been appointed Deputy Chair. The new board members will commence their terms next week and will attend our board meeting in Sydney in December. I would like to personally pass on a heartfelt thank you to our departing board members, our Chair Michael Issenberg, Deputy Chair Jeff Ellison, John Hart, and Annabel Dolphin for their service and contributions to Tourism Australia.
