TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE

Yesterday, Tourism Australia launched the next iteration of its Holiday Here This Year campaign. The campaign, which was first launched in January, aims to get Australians travelling safely across the country to provide a much-needed boost to tourism businesses and operators.

The campaign is fronted by two of Australia’s most iconic homegrown personalities, Hamish Blake and Zoë Foster-Blake, helping inspire Australians to get out and take a holiday in their own backyard. 

With domestic restrictions lifting and consumer confidence improving, now is the perfect time to inspire those Australians who are able to, to plan and book their next holiday. A key focus of the campaign will be on encouraging Australians to travel more like international travellers. This means not just booking a holiday, but also adding a tour or local tourism product offering for a fully immersive destination experience.

The campaign will continue to showcase some of the worst-hit bushfire areas, along with popular tourism destinations that have been badly impacted as a result of COVID-19. This campaign will be rolling out in several bursts of activity over the coming year, which we’ll continue to update you on.

The campaign includes a new broadcast ad starring Hamish Blake and Zoë Foster-Blake, who ponder some of the incredible destinations and experiences that they’d like to visit whilst planning their Australian holiday.

Ahead of the official campaign launch, Tourism Australia also released an inspirational teaser video across social and digital channels to promote active dreaming and encourage planning on Australia.com. It features footage of some of Australia’s most breathtaking landscapes and is narrated by Hamish Blake.

2. Post on your social media channels to encourage consumers to visit soon using #HolidayHereThisYear and one of the new Holiday Here This Year giphy stickers.

Les Sculptures Refusées 2020 launches at Q Station, Manly
From 15 October to 19 October, Q Station in Manly will host the inaugural Les Sculptures Refusées outdoor sculpture exhibition. The month-long open-air exhibition will feature well known artists that have previously shown, or just missed out on exhibiting in Sculptures by the Sea. The concept is modelled on The Archibald Prize’s Salon de Refusées which exhibits works that missed out on the Archibald. Situated by the property’s iconic Pier and Quarantine Beach, Les Sculptures Refusées will be open to all with free entry. Q Station’s charming G&Tea House will operate from Friday to Sunday serving tea-infused gin and tonic cocktails alongside sweet and savoury High Tea options. The exhibition will feature artists including revered Orest Keywan, Simon Hodgson, Anthony Battaglia, Paul Selwood, Ellenore Griffith and founder Tania McMurtry.

Qantas centenary birthday celebrations will take place at the Qantas Founders Museum in Longreach, Queensland on 16 November 2020. To mark 100 years since the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services (QANTAS) was registered, the Qantas Founders Museum has planned a number of activities including morning tea with birthday cake, guided tours of the National Heritage Listed Qantas Hangar and a Curator Talk. Museum admission will be free all day and the Museum’s tours and experiences will operate as normal. To celebrate the milestone in the region where it all began, visit the museum in outback Queensland, bookings are essential

Darwin International Laksa Festival returns in October
The month-long Darwin International Laksa Festival will return in October for its second year. Hunting down a steaming bowl of laksa in the Top End’s capital is a citywide ritual. The annual festival encourages locals and visitors alike to enjoy Darwin’s signature dish, and vote for their favourite via the new Laksa Festival App. The Laksa Festival Day is a celebration of laksa and the cultures that created the much-loved dish, with live cooking demonstrations and entertainment from local communities. The winners of the city’s ‘Golden Bowl’ will be crowned at the event. The Laksa Food Tour kicks off on 26 October 2020 and will run until Festival Day on 29 November 2020.

New Gastronomo Dining Experience on Kangaroo Island
Sealink Kangaroo Island and The Enchanted Fig Tree restaurant have come together to launch a series of wilderness dining events. This summer the unique culinary experience, created by Gastronomo, will lead guests on a journey of the senses. With a progressive luncheon or dinner inspired by sea, land and earth, the menu will be designed by some of South Australia’s most celebrated chefs and feature local produce. SeaLink is the exclusive transport partner and will provide transfers to and from Kangaroo Island accommodation, and ferry services to The Enchanted Fig Tree Restaurant, located in Middle River on the island’s North Coast. The special dining experience will be available from 11 December 2020 to 30 April 2021 with a range of different packages available.
