| | Fantastic events and famils As well as meeting face-to-face with Australian tourism businesses, international buyers and media were also able to enjoy events that showcased the diversity and quality of what Australia has to offer including: a welcome event for media at the d’Arrenburg Cube in McLaren Vale; an ATE welcome event for all delegates at Tasting Australia in Adelaide; a South Australian showcase featuring a performance by Guy Sebastian for international buyers; Happy Hour on the trade show floor with delicacies from every State and Territory; as well as a casual ‘Last Shout’ to end a busy week. International buyers and media also experienced Australia first-hand through famils in South Australia and around the country. |
Thank you to our ATE18 partners Tourism Australia wishes to thank its ATE18 partners, in particular the South Australian Tourism Commission which did an outstanding job in welcoming and hosting delegates at the world-class Adelaide Convention Centre. Virgin Australia was once again a fantastic airline partner for ATE, flying delegates around the country and internationally through its code share network. In addition, 22 partner hotels provided accommodation for hundreds of international buyers and it was great to have Adobe participate for the first time this year, supporting the event’s digital hub. ATEC also provided translations services in Mandarin, Japanese and Korean.

Going green in 2018 Tourism Australia is committed to reducing waste and introducing sustainable practices at events and ATE18 was a great example of this in action. This year Tourism Australia eliminated bottled water from the trade show floor and supplied delegates with a KeepCup to use at the ATE cafés. Food charity OzHarvest collected leftover food to feed those less fortunate and reduced waste through recycling as well as the use of eConnect Australia to keep collateral at a minimum. The Adelaide Convention Centre also has an EarthCheck Gold Certification for their sustainable practices and the South Australian Tourism Commission has planted trees for every delegate who attended.
Streamlining ATE This year Tourism Australia and partners introduced a range of innovations at ATE to help streamline and improve the event for delegates. This included: pre-publishing recorded presentations from Tourism Australia’s international managers on the performance of international markets to help Australian delegates prepare for appointments; supplying badges at hotels for international buyers and employing self-service kiosks to make registration quicker and easier; and through their partnership with airport baggage transfer and check-in service OACIS, Virgin Australia offered delegates the opportunity to check in and bag drop at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Perth to host ATE19 Perth will be showcased as the host of the 40th annual Australian Tourism Exchange in April 2019. Federal Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, the Hon Steven Ciobo MP said Perth was set to benefit from an immediate injection of visitors attending ATE and over the longer term attract more international visitors. “No other event provides the same opportunity for Australian tourism businesses to personally connect with tourism buyers from all over the world,” said the Minister. Western Australian Minister for Tourism, the Hon Paul Papalia said Perth is perfectly positioned to host ATE19 as the unprecedented hotel and event infrastructure development in WA’s cosmopolitan capital comes to fruition.
Stay connected with industry colleagues Once again, the online e-brochure service and networking platform, eConnect Australia, was available to all delegates attending ATE18. Through eConnect Australia you can share and download brochures, marketing collateral and news as well as connect with delegates year-round. Tourism Australia’s new Events App used at ATE18 is also a great record for appointments, delegate lists and contact details.
