| | | | | TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATE | This week international travel buyers from around the world begin arriving in Queensland for the 2023 Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE23), taking place on the Gold Coast from 30 April to 4 May. This 43rd edition of ATE, being held in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland and supported by Destination Gold Coast, will bring together around 2,300 delegates from Australia and more than 30 international markets. After two years of condensed hybrid events, ATE23 will return to its traditional format, running over five days. Our event partners are also working with us to host the ATE23 Media Program, from 28 April to 1 May. This will be the first full media program to be delivered since 2019, bringing together international and domestic journalists, editors, broadcasters and digital influencers to meet one-on-one with Australian tourism businesses. | | | Australia On Board - Italian Aussie Specialists training event | One hundred qualified Italian Aussie Specialist agents were trained at the ‘Australia on Board Event’ in Italy. ‘Australia On Board’ organised by Tourism Australia in partnership with Tourism Northern Territory, South Australian Tourism Commission, Destination New South Wales, Tourism Western Australia, Tourism Victoria along with industry partners Sealink Group, Tourism Tropical North Queensland, Great Southern Touring Route, and AAT Kings. During the four day training event the agents learnt about Tourism Australia’s campaigns and tools, received news and updates from State and Territory representatives and partners during dedicated workshop sessions. Participants enjoyed team building activities designed to strengthen the sense of community around the Aussie Specialist Program. |
| | Tourism Australia promotes Working Holiday Maker Visa program in Korea | The first working holiday reality program to be broadcast in Korea, tvN travel entertainment 'Busan Country Boys' debuted this week. Over twelve episodes the program follows four Korean celebrities from Busan who participate in Australia's Working Holiday Maker (WHM) program by working on a farm and in a café while visiting local attractions. During the show the celebrities visit Australian holiday destinations that are attractive to working holiday makers. The series is designed to increase awareness of Australia's Working Holiday Maker visa program in Korea and attract young Koreans to travel to Australia to take part in the ultimate working holiday experience. |

| | | | Reminder to apply for Australia Marketplace 2023 | Seller applications are open to attend Australia Marketplace South East Asia 2023, Australia Marketplace India 2023 and Australia Marketplace North America 2023. Each event will include two and a half days of pre-scheduled appointments between buyers and sellers as well as networking opportunities. The events will provide an opportunity for the Australian tourism industry to build relationships with product planners and travel decision makers from South East Asia, India and North America. Separate applications must be completed for each event. Applications for Australia Marketplace South East Asia and Australia Marketplace India close on Friday 12 May 2023, with applications for Australia Marketplace North America closing on Friday 19 May 2023. |
| | Content Partnership in France with Le Figaro Voyages Online | Australia is currently featuring in a special content partnership with the Le Figaro Voyages online. Tourism Australia has partnered with Tourism Northern Territory, Destination New South Wales, South Australian Tourism Commission and Tourism and Events Queensland to extend the Australia messaging in the French online magazine. The special content features Australia as a sporting nation, enticing road trips and special experiences as well as a content focus on the participating states. Following the special print edition of Le Figaro Voyages in November 2022 on Australia, French online readers will be inspired to plan a holiday in Australia with the campaign running until the end of June 2023. |

| | | | Sensory inclusive Phillip Island | Phillip Island is set to become the first tourist town in Australia to officially become 'sensory inclusive' with dozens of businesses trained in identifying sensory overload and making shops, attractions, and restaurants a safe space for people suffering from conditions like autism, stroke, dementia and PTSD. A Sensory Night will be held at the Penguin Parade on 30 April, with designated quiet areas and headphone zones and sensory bags available to hire filled with items such as noise cancelling headphones, fidget tools and verbal cue cards available for those who may experience sensory overload while visiting. |
| | LGBTQ+ inclusivity training workshops | Learn how to welcome LGBTQ+ travellers to your region / experience with LGBTQ+ inclusivity workshops created by Husbands That Travel (HTT). Owner operators will learn how to understand the experiences of LGBTQ+ travellers in Australia today and how to create an inclusive marketing plan and welcoming experience for LGBTQ+ travellers. | | | | | SA celebrates success of AFL Gather Round, showcase wins three more years | The inaugural AFL Gather Round was an overwhelming success, culminating in the AFL's announcement that the footy festival will be hosted in South Australia for the next three seasons. More than 220,000 fans attended nine sold-out matches played across Adelaide Oval, Norwood Oval, and Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills, with over 60,000 fans having purchased tickets from interstate. More than 115,000 passengers were expected to pass through Adelaide Airport from last Thursday through to Sunday, making it the busiest four days for our city's airport since before the pandemic. |
| | Explore the power and passion of Barka at The Australian Museum | Running until 23 July, The Australian Museum in Sydney/Warrane will host Barka: The Forgotten River exhibition. Developed by Uncle Badger Bates and Justine Muller with the Barkandji community, the First Nations exhibition is a free showcase of the stories, culture and people of Barka (the Darling River). Visitors are invited to explore how Barka is the lifeblood of the Barkandji people through a range of multidisciplinary works. A member of Discover Aboriginal Experiences, The Australian Museum is open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Sunday, and open late until 9pm on Wednesday. |

| | | | Prepare to be dazzled with Opera Australia’s autumn/winter season | Opera Australia has announced a new suite of performances across Sydney/Warrane and Melbourne/Narrm throughout autumn and winter. As part of the season, the company will host the brand-new production of Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann at the Sydney Opera House from 11 to 22 July, alongside Davide Livermore's epic digitally-led production of Aida. Then in a one-off Melbourne-exclusive, the Arts Centre Melbourne will house a special showcase of Philip Glass' masterpiece Satyagraha on 13 May. |
