The week in art is off to a busy start. In New York, revelations that an Eric Adams advisor attempted to facilitate an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum add to the mayor’s already troubled administration. In international news, a petition by Egypt’s former minister of tourism and antiquities is calling for the world-famous “Nefertiti Bust” at Berlin’s Neues Museum to be returned home. And an art-world fantasy played out when a painting bought by a dealer for $50 was confirmed as a work by famed British Columbia artist Emily Carr worth almost $150,000. In reviews, our own Lisa Yin Zhang’s thoughtful take on to hold a we at BRIC in Downtown Brooklyn, a show highlighting artists with disabilities, may make you see the world differently. Meanwhile, Olivia McEwan reveals the risks of pairing two exceptional artists in her review of a London exhibition featuring Flora Yukhnovich and François Boucher. And if you find yourself in the Midwest, make sure to read my report on the University of Michigan’s Gender Euphoria symposium — and then get to Ann Arbor to check it out. — Natalie Haddad, Reviews Editor | |
