Nominations are now open for the EONS Board Elections 2025, with opportunities to apply for: President-Elect Board Member – Education Board Member – ResearchFull members, whether part of an EONS National Oncology Nursing Society or individual members, are encouraged to apply. The deadline for nominations is 3 March 2025 (12:00 CET), with voting running from 10 March – 7 April 2025. Newly elected Board members will receive mentorship and support to ensure a smooth transition into their roles. Submit your nomination today—more details and application forms are available on our website. | | | ECN BLOG - INSIGHTS FROM THE YOUTH POLICY DIALOGUE | | In this month's edition of theECN blog, we highlight the Youth Policy Dialogue held on World Cancer Day by the European Commission. This event brought together young cancer survivors and healthcare professionals to discuss key challenges in oncology with EU Health Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi. Núria Aguado Machancoses, EONS Early Career Working Group member, shared her experience at the dialogue, where she and other professionals raised concerns about understaffing, precarious working conditions, and the need for stronger support for cancer nurses across Europe. Participants also advocated for increased investment in public health campaigns, stricter regulations on smoking and alcohol, and enhanced support for mental health and quality of life for cancer patients. | | | EONS AT ICCN 2025 CONGRESS | | EONS is delighted to announce our participation in the International Conference on Cancer Nursing (ICCN2025), taking place from 18-21 June 2025 in Adelaide, Australia. Under the theme “Global Voices, Local Actions: from Inspiration to Implementation”, ICCN2025 will bring together leading cancer nursing professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge, inspire innovation, and drive impactful change in oncology care. EONS is proud to be hosting a joint session at this event, providing a platform to highlight key European perspectives on cancer nursing, policy, and practice. Stay tuned for more details on our session! | | | EONS TO PARTICIPATE IN 2025 CONFERENCE ON SAFER CANCER CARE | | EONS is proud to highlight the 2025 Safer Cancer Care Conference, which focuses on protecting cancer nurses from occupational health risks associated with handling anticancer drugs. EONS President-Elect Helena Ullgren will present on "Aspects of Occupational Safety: A Survey Among European Cancer Nurses." Additionally, EONS Education Working Group Member, Matthias Hellberg-Naegele, will discuss "How Switzerland and Germany Are Applying Occupational Safety Regulations." EONS is preparing to celebrate European Cancer Nursing Day 2025 (ECND25), recognising the incredible contributions of cancer nurses across Europe. This year’s theme, "Cancer Nursing Beyond Borders,"highlights the power of nursing to unite efforts and improve cancer care worldwide. As part of the celebration, we are pleased to announce a special joint event in Athens, Greece, in collaboration with the Hellenic National Nurses Association, with programme details to be shared soon. Working Group members are invited to join—please complete the ECND25 registration form online by 12:00 noon CET on Friday, 28 February 2025. To support participation, a toolkit will be available in the coming days, along with the launch of a special competition to mark this occasion. Taking place in Berlin from October 18-20, 2025, EONS18 will bring together cancer nurses, researchers, educators, and healthcare professionals from across the globe under the theme “Compassionate Care in Cancer Nursing: Bridging the Gap Between Science and Humanity.” Key deadlines to note: Abstracts, Trials in Progress, and Intent to Submit Late-Breaking Abstracts (LBAs) are due by 13 May 2025 (21:00 CEST), while Late-Breaking Abstracts must be submitted by 9 September 2025 (21:00 CEST), with a required skeleton submission by 13 May. | NEW RESEARCH ON PRODUCTIVITY COSTS AND UNEMPLOYMENT IN ADVANCED BREAST CANCER | | | The ABC Global Alliance, in collaboration with the University of Lisbon, has published a new study on the impact of reducing unemployment in patients with advanced breast cancer and its associated productivity costs. This important research highlights the economic and social implications of supporting patients with advanced breast cancer to remain in the workforce, reinforcing the need for policies that address employment challenges in cancer care.
