Good morning and thanks for joining us. Here are some of the day's top headlines. Bad timing? The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants to let a contractor take apart one of the pumps in the 17th Street Canal pumping station for a month during hurricane season, drawing objections from the regional levee authority and others who say it's too risky. Mark Schleifstein has the story. Entergy bills to rise: State regulators have approved Entergy Louisiana's $1.9 billion plan to bolster its electricity grid, one that will have customers outside of New Orleans paying higher monthly bills. Sam Karlin has this report on how much more the average customer will pay, starting when. Another vision for the lakefront: Kenner has unveiled yet another plan to redevelop its lakefront — including an outdoor amphitheater — and this time, officials assure us, "it isn't pretend." Blake Patterson explains what they're talking about. Thanks for reading, and check out all the latest news, sports and entertainment coverage from The Times-Picayune. Chad |
