Good evening

We were all disappointed when those three penalties were missed.

We remembered all the other penalty heartaches we have endured as England fans and added this one to the list.

But the vast majority of people will have felt nothing but sympathy for those three young men who were unable to convert the spot kicks. They have given their all, conducted themselves with dignity and been the kind of role models we want from our sporting heroes.

And yet, for some that wasn’t enough. They felt it was right to take their disappointment out on the individuals, not for a lack of skill or mental strength, but for the colour of their skin.

Every single person who posted a racist comment in the aftermath of the Euro final is a disgrace. They are not England fans, they are not football fans, they are racists, simple as that.

Saka, Rashford and Sancho are worth a million of those who spit hatred and division across social media.

And it is up to all of us to ensure their vile opinions don’t take root in our communities.

Until next time, stay safe

Gillian
