Greetings, New Orleans foodies! This week, Ian McNulty visits a brand-new restaurant from Emeril Lagasse: 34 Restaurant & Bar, an ode to Lagasse's Portuguese heritage. The fabled West Bank family landmark Mosca's will present a pop-up version of its menu in New Orleans. Ian takes a close look at a new kind of New Orleans neighborhood restaurant. Carmo is closing, but there's a silver lining as the chefs start a new project. Hubig's Pies will bring back a favorite seasonal flavor. Finally, Liz Williams whips up a fabulous fall supper of brussels sprouts, beef stew and tiramisu. 1. Emeril's roots. It was the home kitchen of his mother, the late Hilda Medeiros Lagasse, that chef Emeril Lagasse was first inspired to step up to the stove. Now he's bringing that Portuguese home cooking to his new venture, 34 Restaurant & Bar. 2. They've come a long way. For New Orleanians, getting a taste of Mosca's entails a road trip to the far reaches of the West Bank. But for one night next week, Mosca's is doing a pop-up Italian Sunday supper in Lakeview. 3. Wait! There's more. Carmo is closing after 15 years, but its chefs have plans to open another restaurant already. A new kind of New Orleans neighborhood restaurant morphs to meet the changing needs of customers. And a beloved fall flavor is back this season for the local favorite, Hubig's Pies. 4. It's fall, y'all. With the changing seasons, life gets busier in New Orleans. Our food writer Liz Williams has the quick and easy answer: a simple autumn feast of beef stew and brussels sprouts. And never skip dessert, especially when it's this pared-down tiramisu. In New Orleans, the food news never stops. Keep up with all the inside info at Where NOLA Eats.
