“Why do we have shame in our culture about transformation? Why do we shame people for being a past incarnation of themselves and not knowing who they were?” asks comedian and writer Alok Vaid-Menon. Alok is on a mission to embrace the unruliness of living and get people to question the boxes we’ve put ourselves into and ask why. Artist and filmmaker Alex Hedison, who made a short documentary film about Alok, leads a conversation about love, gender, and transformation.

Selma Blair Shares Her Story

You likely know Selma Blair as the ingenue in Cruel Intentions or the preppy ice queen in Legally Blonde, but her most important role to date might be as a disability advocate for those dealing with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). “I did not trust myself my whole life. I was convinced it was totally psychogenic,” she says. “Everything changed with that diagnosis because it let me trust myself.” March is MS Awareness Month, so we’re revisiting a conversation from the 2022 Aspen Ideas Festival where NBC’s Sheinelle Jones interviewed Blair about her memoir, “Mean Baby,” the path to her MS diagnosis, and her dedication to bringing visibility to chronic illness.
