BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer A federal judge's decision Thursday likely means none of the 55 death row inmates asking for mercy will receive it before Gov. John Bel Edwards leaves office. U.S. District Chief Judge Shelly Dick rejected a request from the inmates who had been seeking a preliminary injunction against the state pardon board's decision to forego swift pardon hearings for death row prisoners in Louisiana. Edwards will leave office on Jan. 8 with Attorney General Jeff Landry taking over as governor. The Ascension Parish School Board is set to consider a plan to spend $2.16 million to air-condition 176 of the parish's 208 route buses by the new school year. The parish's top school transportation official says retrofitting many of those buses — 114 owned by the system — could start in December. After LSU senior quarterback Jayden Daniels practiced for the second straight day Thursday, he is "probable" for this week's game against Florida, coach Brian Kelly said. The Tigers will host the Gators at 6:30 p.m. Saturday inside Tiger Stadium. |
