RAC opinions on harmonising the classification and labelling of three lithiums salts and MMA

Opinions of our Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) on lithium carbonate, lithium chloride and lithium hydroxide, and methyl methacrylate (MMA) are now available on our website. These opinions were developed in response to a request from the European Commission to review an earlier opinion.

The Commission considers RAC opinions when deciding whether to include and update the harmonised classification and labelling of these substances in Annex VI to the CLP Regulation. The Annex lists all hazardous substances with harmonised classification and labelling.

New intention and proposal to harmonise classification and labelling

One intention has been submitted for:

  • Reaction products of boric acid with 2-propylheptan-1-ol (1:3) [1] 2,2'-methyliminodiethanol and its reaction products with boric acid (1:1.5) [2] (EC -, CAS -).

One proposal has been submitted for:

  • brodifacoum (ISO); 4-hydroxy-3-(3-(4′-bromo-4-biphenylyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-naphthyl)coumarin (EC 259-980-5, CAS 56073-10-0).

Court judgments

Court confirms ECHA's and Board of Appeal's position related to compliance check decision and cease of manufacture

The General Court dismisses actions against:

  • ECHA's Board of Appeal’s decision in case A-009-2020; and
  • a letter that ECHA sent to Italian competent authorities in February 2022

concerning the follow-up of a compliance check decision.

In its judgments, the Court confirmed ECHA's view that a registrant that ceases to manufacture or import a substance after the adoption of a compliance check decision is not relieved of its obligation to provide the information requested in that decision.

New tool to identify carcinogens at work

The renewed Roadmap on Carcinogens website provides more practical help and useful factsheets for companies and workers.

It includes a new tool that helps businesses and workers to identify carcinogens at work and take preventive measures.

Every year more than 100 000 people in the EU die from cancer that was caused by exposure to carcinogens at work.

ECHA is a partner of this EU voluntary action scheme that aims to prevent workers from being exposed to carcinogens in the workplace.
