CoinDesk: ECB to start wholesale CBDC settlement trials in 2024

The European Central Bank will start exploratory work for financial market settlement based on distributed ledger technology (DLT) starting in 2024, according to minutes seen by CoinDesk. The explorations will be “limited in capacity and time,” and take place on the basis of existing rules. Read more


Reuters: Deutsche Bank urges rethink of crisis-era UK bank levy

Britain's indefinite crisis-era levy on bank balance sheets will shortly put its lenders at a disadvantage to rivals in the EU and ultimately influence where banks locate their business, a top European bank said. As reported by Reuters,  in the EU the equivalent levy is ending at the end of this year. Read more


S&P Global Market Intelligence: European banks show ample capital buffers as Basel III reforms near conclusion

Europe's banks hold ample capital buffers with 18 months to go until the implementation of the final post-global financial crisis rules. This boosts their core capital ratios well above minimum requirements, S&P Global Market Intelligence data shows. Read more

The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced that the Economic Bulletin is out now. This publication presents the economic and monetary information which forms the basis for the Governing Council’s policy decisions. Read more


EIOPA: How EIOPA is using comparative studies as a supervisory tool

To analyze whether models appropriately reflect the underlying risk, the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) runs European-wide comparative studies. They come as a complement to individual internal model analysis and national studies. Read more


EC: Provisional political agreement on EU Digital Identity Wallet

The European Commission (EC) welcomes the provisional political agreement of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU on the key elements of the proposal for a legal framework for a European Digital Identity. Read more

EBF: Basel III agreement to further strengthen resilience of European banking sector, while maintaining its ability to finance growth

The EBF notes the agreement reached by the Swedish Presidency of the EU with the European Parliament and the European Commission on the Banking Package, a core legislative piece that will transpose into EU law the Finalisation of Basel III as well as other prudential topics. Read more


EBF: Views on the digital euro, payment services and financial data access proposals

The EBF shared its reaction to three major digital finance proposals put forward by the European Commission: a legal framework for a digital euro, the Financial Data Access framework, and the Revision of EU rules on payment services. Read more
