Bloomberg: EU banks expand risk scenarios with climate change

European banks are building out their risk models to better prepare for the fallout from climate change, as reported by Bloomberg. New areas of concern include business liquidity as well as interest-rate risk in the banking book. Read more


FT: SNB calls for overhaul of banking regulations 

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) has called for a review of banking regulations as it warned that existing global rules on capital and liquidity do not safeguard systematically important lenders from collapse. According to the Financial Times (FT), the report proposes that Swiss banks set a higher minimum level of assets. Read more


Reuters: BoE hikes rates to 5% in a surprise move

The Bank of England (BoE) raised interest rates by a bigger-than-expected half a percentage point after it said there had been "significant" news suggesting British inflation would take longer to fall, Reuters reports. Read more

NVB: Revised Code of Conduct for Small Business Financing

Small business entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to come into personal contact with the bank at every stage of the financing process where necessary. This is an important change in the revised Code of Conduct for Small Business Financing (GKF) that takes effect on 1 July, writes the Dutch Banking Association (NVB). Read more (NL)


ABBL: Proposal for new rules on withholding tax procedures in the EU

The European Commission has released a proposal for a Council Directive on Faster and Safer Relief of Excess Withholding Taxes. As reported by the Luxembourg Bankers Association (ABBL), the new rules would introduce new requirements for financial intermediaries acting as Certified financial intermediaries. Read more

ECB: Central clearing in turbulent times

Central counterparties must adapt their risk management strategies in the face of heightened economic and financial uncertainty, says European Central Bank (ECB) Executive Board Member Fabio Panetta. Public authorities must also consider adjusting the related regulatory and oversight framework. Read more


BIS: Sharon Donnery: climate risks and the banking sector

Sharon Donnery, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland discussed ESG integration in the banking sector in a speech published by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). "For banks, this means focusing on how you integrate climate and environmental risk into your business models, strategies, and risk management practices," he says. Read more


EC: President von der Leyen: Summit for a New Global Financing Pact

We need a new Global Financing Pact. The EU is ready to play its part with Global Gateway. "Global Gateway is of course a de-risking for private capital, and this is creating a conducive environment for private investors," Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission (EC) said.
