The WardsAuto Student Design Competition, sponsored by IAC and Lear, will unveil its finalists on Wednesday, April 13 at 5 pm in the Tech Hub of SAE World Congress, held at the Cobo Center in Detroit. Students were tasked with creating a vehicle interior for a sports car for the year 2030 that is distinctive, fun to drive on the track or open road, but also features autonomous capabilities for city commuting. This year’s competition is WardsAuto’s seventh collaboration with Detroit’s prestigious College for Creative Studies (CCS), which has graduated many of the auto industry’s top designers. The finalists and winners are chosen by a panel of automaker design executives recruited by the CCS and WardsAuto. Drew Winter, WardsAuto senior editor, said, “This program is geared toward affluent professionals who are avid car enthusiasts and want to introduce their children to the joy of motorsports as well as automotive engineers that like to see the students new ideas and ‘pure creativity’ in design. As always, we look forward to seeing the innovative interiors that the students will create.” The grand prize winner, along with winners of a special EcoBlend Award from IAC and Innovation Award from Lear will be announced during the WardsAuto Interiors Conference, which takes place May 11 at Detroit’s Cobo Center.
