Cleveland’s 15th annual Dyngus Day celebration set for April 21

The 15th annual Dyngus Day celebration is set for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 21, centered in Cleveland’s Gordon Square neighborhood. Dyngus Day, also known as Wet Monday, is a traditional Polish holiday that celebrates the end of the Lenten season the day after Easter. Polka, pierogi and piwo (beer in Polish) are all integral to the celebration. READ MORE

 

Cleveland’s downtown Food Truck Series returns for summer 2025 

Downtown Cleveland food trucks roll into the city center starting May 1 through September 30. Weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., hungry visitors can find mobile eateries at five downtown locations, with more than 50 different food trucks rotating throughout the season. Paris Wolfe reports that the popular series will also feature live local music at each location. Rocket Arena transforms portion of Loudville into Corona Cantina 

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Monsters have named Corona and Modelo their official import beers. The former Loudville standing-room-only space is now the Corona Cantina, serving Modelo and Corona on draft. The bar area is now the Corona Cantina, while the floor of the building is still referred to as Loudville. READ MORE

West Side Market defends lease changes as one ousted vendor launches petition drive 

King’s Quality Produce is fighting the West Side Market's decision to terminate its lease, launching a petition that claims the husband-and-wife owners are being targeted for criticizing market conditions and leadership. The petition, started by their daughter, calls for Cleveland to reverse the decision and create transparent leasing policies. READ MORE

 

Toast 100 Years of ‘The Great Gatsby’ with these artisanal gins 

Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece "The Great Gatsby" marked its centennial on April 10, 2025. Published during Prohibition, the novel is filled with scenes of drinking and partying that capture the indulgent spirit of the Roaring Twenties, with characters consuming everything from chartreuse and whiskey to gin. Cleveland Asian Festival returns May 17-18 

The Cleveland Asian Festival is back for its 2024 edition on Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18, featuring a diverse array of cultural experiences. Visitors can enjoy the food court, Asian food competition, world marketplace, and entertainment including Asian trivia, Asian-Pop Dance Competition, Cosplay Showcase, and fashion show. Graeter’s Ice Cream new flavor: Bourbon Ball 

Cincinnati-based Graeter’s Ice Cream has partnered with New Riff Distilling in Kentucky to create Bourbon Ball Ice Cream, replacing the company’s Brown Butter Bourbon Pecan flavor. The rich, bourbon-infused treat features whiskey-glazed pecans and dark chocolate chips. It’s inspired by Bourbon balls, the classic Kentucky confection. READ MORE

This month we tried a selection of some pretty wild wines – as in Kind of Wild Wines. We tried six bottles with multiple varietals. The grapes come from all over the world. Griswolds to Star Wars: Couple embraces themed pop-up bars 

Victoria and James Mowbray own several restaurants, but their event space – adjacent to Old School Pizza and Wings By Parker’s in Avon Lake – has turned into a fun place. Sage & Honey book-café to open in Chagrin Falls in May 

A mother-daughter team will open Sage & Honey, a 2,500-square-foot book-café and gift shop, in mid-May. Michelle and Kaylee "Kat" Tomsich got the idea while visiting Wake Forest University in North Carolina. The new establishment will take over the former Jensen Travelon corner retail space. El Carnicero returns to Lakewood for one-night-only Latino fish fry event  

El Carnicero closed its doors at 16918 Detroit Avenue last spring after 11 years in business. Restaurant owner/chef Eric Williams announced on social media that El Carnicero would be returning for a one-night-only event. The Latino fish fry is set for 4 p.m. on Good Friday, April 18, until sellout at Wine Dive Cle. READ MORE

 Mellow Mushroom is bringing back its 4/20 deal a little early this year for folks looking for deals on munchies during the “high holiday.” The pizza shop is offering its signature pretzel bites for $4.20 running through April 20 at all locations. Free sandwiches to be given out on Earth Day

Ramp Up Peninsula festival celebrates wild onions 

The Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the the wild onion known as a ramp with the Ramp Up Peninsula festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 26. The Old Angle Tavern 

Cleveland’s W. 25th Street is an ever-changing neighborhood filled with new bars, restaurants and businesses always popping up. However, The Old Angle Tavern has remained an old-school staple thanks to its from-scratch bar menu and classic hospitality. “The Best” wings, Tradesman pretzel balls and fish and chips are a few options that you can’t go wrong with. The menu offers a rich variety of locally sourced and thoughtfully prepared items including a breakfast burrito with charred chile mole, cilantro lime black beans, smoked gouda, scrambled eggs, peppers & onions, yogurt, pickled jalapeños, cilantro, feta or Ohio spelt pancakes with sorghum butter, whipped cream, seasonal fruit and Ohio maple syrup. Breakfast and lunch sandwiches are also available.
