Greetings from soggy and suddenly chilly Augusta, Georgia. The LSU Tigers were staring their first series loss of the season right in the face, trailing at South Carolina 7-3 in the eighth inning after losing Thursday's series opener 13-5. Gavin Dugas to the rescue. Dugas blasted a grand slam in the top of the eighth to tie the game. Cade Beloso then drove in the winning run in the top of the ninth and another Gavin, Gavin Guidry, struck out Caleb Denny to preserve the Tigers' thrilling 8-7 victory. LSU will have to have more of that Saturday to win the series. The teams will wrap it up at 11 a.m. CDT from Columbia, South Carolina, with a game that will be streamed live on SECNetwork+. That is if the game can be played at all. As is the case here for The Masters, the forecast in Columbia is for rain all day. The basketball transfer portal is warm and dry and open for business, and the LSU men's team was busy there Friday. Shooting guard Adam Miller announced he is entering the portal, while Jalen Cook, a former Tiger point guard who transferred to Tulane, announced he plans to return to LSU. Women's basketball is still making news less than a week after beating iowa for the NCAA championship. Senior point guard Alexis Morris was invited Friday to attend the WNBA draft, where teammate Angel Reese said all season she will be a first-round pick. Not only did baseball bounce back from a series-opening loss, but so did softball Friday with a 3-1 win over Missouri. Got to make a shameless plug for my Masters notebook as we see how former Tiger All-American Sam Burns stands after two rounds. I'll throw in my column on the scary scene when three pine trees falling on the 17th hole, narrowly missing some spectators there, for free. Finally, LSU track and field hosts the Lloyd Wills Invitational on Saturday as outdoor track season marches on. Thank you for reading and subscribing to our newsletter. You are our umbrella on a rainy day. A little corny, huh? I'll work on my material. Scott Rabalais |
