CrowdStrike to face lawmakers for the first time today

The company was behind a hugely damaging IT outage that affected businesses and organizations globally

CrowdStrike will come under scrutiny on Tuesday when a senior executive takes questions from a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee regarding the company's catastrophic software update in July that led to a global IT outage.

Senior CrowdStrike executive Adam Meyers will go before lawmakers to explain what caused the disruption and also outline the measures that the company is taking to ensure that nothing like it happens again. His testimony could even effect future cyber legislation.

The hearing starts at 2 p.m. ET today and you can watch a live-stream of the event ...

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold review: I love it, and think you will too

‘Closed, it’s as close as I need to a "normal" phone’s shape and dimensions, and opened up, it’s a video and entertainment powerhouse’

Digital Trends has gone hands-on with the recently launched Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and there’s clearly a lot to like about Google’s new handset.

The highlights include a superb build and design, as well as a bright, sharp, and colorful 8-inch display when unfolded. The device is also praised for its "versatile and fun camera," software that’s a delight to use, and a commitment to seven years of updates. Downsides include its high price at $1,800, and its weight — it’s rather on the heavy side at 9.1 ounces (257 grams). The battery also seems slow to charge ...

But according to the review, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has way more pros than cons ...

Rotel says the Michi Q5 CD player will 'elevate the audio experience to new heights' — for a price

The device costs a whopping $7,000 and will be available globally from November

Rotel has just launched the Michi Q5 Transport DAC, joining the X3 and X5 Series 2 integrated amplifiers that it released last year, What Hi-Fi reported.

The Q5 is a high-performance CD player with digital inputs and outputs, and the added capability high-resolution file playback, including DSD (Direct Stream Digital) and MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) types.

The device promises "extraordinary detail retrieval" from music tracks, and a wide soundstage. The top-loading CD mechanism is mounted on a custom floating spring assembly for a stable design that minimizes any vibrations that would otherwise degrade sound quality ...

The Penguin opens to strong viewing figures in first four days

The show has been warmly received by critics

HBO spinoff series The Penguin has received 5.3 million views in the U.S. across all platforms since debuting on September 19.

Starring Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, The Penguin’s strong viewing figures see it rise above the final season premiere of Succession, which registered 4.9 million viewers, and the second season premiere of The White Lotus, which drew 4.1 million, Variety reported. But it comes in just behind True Detective: Night Country, which pulled in 5.7 million viewers at the start.

In The Penguin, Farrell reprises his role from The Batman, playing Gotham City gangster Oswald “Oz” Cobb who's on a quest to seize control of the Gotham underworld ...

Hackers are leveraging pirated games to spread malware

Cybercriminals are using CAPTCHA tests as part of efforts to trick some people into downloading malware

The CAPTCHA tests help to trick users into thinking that malicious websites or downloads are legitimate, and the method is being increasingly used on sites purporting to offer pirated or cracked versions of video games, Digital Trends reported.

Security researchers first detected the use of CAPTCHAs in malware delivery schemes last month, McAfee Labs said. After solving the CAPTCHA, users are redirected to download a file that is typically riddled with malware, in this case, Lumma Stealer.

Lumma Stealer is a sophisticated information-stealing malware that targets sensitive data such as login credentials, browser cookies, saved passwords, and information from file transfer protocol (FTP) clients and cryptocurrency wallets ...
