Record labels sue AI music generators over alleged copyright infringement

Many artists have been voicing concern over how generative-AI technologies may impact their work

Major record labels have joined forces to take two prominent AI music-making companies to court over alleged copyright infringement, NBC News reported.

Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, and others filed lawsuits on Monday against Suno and Udio-maker Uncharted Labs after the tech firms released AI programs that let users create songs from text prompts.

The record labels claim that building services like Suno and Udio requires “copying decades worth of the world’s most popular sound recordings” to train the necessary AI models. Udio has yet to comment but Suno told the Guardian that its technology is “designed to generate completely new outputs, not to memorize and regurgitate pre-existing content” and doesn’t allow users to reference specific artists ...

The Galaxy Watch Ultra may have one of the best smartwatch displays ever

The all-new Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra will be getting a stunning display, if the latest rumor is to be believed

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch Ultra in just a few weeks’ time, and a new leak claims that the device will come with an anti-reflective coating as part of its display, Digital Trends reported.

If true, the Galaxy Watch Ultra would likely be using the same Gorilla Armor sapphire crystal display that Samsung developed in partnership with Corning. The same panel on Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra very much impressed this reviewer when he assessed the phone earlier this year.

An anti-reflective coating would bring reduced reflectiveness and enhanced visibility, even under direct sunlight. With an expected 3,000 nits of peak brightness, it would also offer superior colors and hues ...

War Thunder devs apologize over Challenger shuttle explosion art

The debris cloud used in the art will be familiar to many people who recall the 1986 space shuttle tragedy that killed seven astronauts

War Thunder developer Gaijin Entertainment has apologized for using the aftermath of the Challenger Space Shuttle explosion in new official art, Digital Trends reported.

The image, released to coincide with the upcoming Seek & Destroy update, features a composite of three images featuring some of the new jets coming to the game. But the debris cloud in the background was taken from imagery of the Challenger space shuttle explosion.

The company said it had “accidentally used the explosion from the Challenger disaster in one of our key art images” and offered “sincere apologies,” adding that it would be “altering this artwork” soon ...
