OpenAI enters Google-dominated search market with SearchGPT

The new tool looks like the first major challenge to Google Search after decades of dominance

It’s actually here! Following months of speculation, OpenAI has launched an AI-powered search engine called SearchGPT, Reuters reported. For now, SearchGPT is a prototype with only select users able to take it for a spin. Interested folks can sign-up to join a waiting list.

Unlike regular search engines, SearchGPT lets you use a conversational style in your inquiries, and even allows you to ask follow-up questions. Content retrieved by SearchGPT includes links to relevant sources, including up-to-date information.

OpenAI said it plans to integrate the best features from the search tool into ChatGPT as soon as they’re ready ...

An Android phone launching next week has a spec we’ve never seen before

Fresh off unveiling the CMF Phone 1 from its budget brand, Nothing is about to release yet another handset

Nothing is unveiling the Nothing Phone 2a Plus next week, and in typical fashion, we’re getting a steady drip of information about the new device, Digital Trends reported.

In a recent social media post, Nothing shared the attention-grabbing revelation that the device will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7350 Pro in what is an exclusive worldwide debut for the chip.

This new processor can clock speeds up to 3GHz, making the Nothing Phone 2a Plus 10% faster than the Nothing Phone 2a. The upcoming handset will also have a new Mali-G610 MC4 GPU that’s “30% speedier at tearing through complex graphics and number crunching.” That's why Nothing says it's a device "born for gaming" ...

The streaming wars just produced a new discounted bundle

Announced in May but launched on Thursday, the bundle can be purchased now via any of the three streaming services

A new bundle deal from Disney+, Hulu, and Max can save subscribers up to 38% on the price of joining each service individually, NPR reported.

There are two versions: one with ads for $16.99 per month, and an ad-free option for $29.99 per month. Purchasing the ad-supported plans for all three services individually would set you back $25.97 per month, while the ad-free plan total would be $48.97.

In an increasingly competitive landscape, Comcast recently announced a new streaming bundle with Peacock, Netflix, and Apple TV+, and earlier this year, ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery revealed plans for a sports streaming platform ...

Video game performers are striking over AI concerns

Hollywood video game performers have voted to strike, in a bid to get better protections against encroaching AI technology

It seems like only yesterday that another major Hollywood strike was in full swing, and now another one is just getting started.

This time it involves members of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) who lend their voices — and sometimes their likenesses — to characters in video games from major players such as Activision, EA, and WB Games, Digital Trends reported.

“Our members can and will stand up and demand fair and equitable treatment with respect to AI, and the public supports us in that,” SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director and chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said in a statement ...
