Friend, Facebook and Twitter have gotten a lot of attention for their role in spreading disinformation about the election and COVID — and for fanning the flames of white supremacy and other forms of hate. But what about Fox News? In the wake of the violent insurrection at the Capitol, Congress has been holding hearing after hearing to try and uncover exactly how the events of Jan. 6 took place. For months networks like Fox News, Newsmax and One America News Network (OANN) have promoted Trump’s false claims that the election was stolen. And whether you watch these networks or not, you are probably subsidizing them. Tell Congress: I don’t want to pay for hate. Every cable subscriber is forced to subsidize Fox News' racism, hate, election lies, COVID disinformation and more through subscriber fees — which are two to five times higher than the fees for networks like CNN or MSNBC. So even if you never turn Fox News on, your dollars help keep it going. But Congress can put a stop to this. Tell your members of Congress to stop cable companies from forcing customers to pay for content they don’t want to support. The average household pays $2 a month to Fox News in subscriber fees. This is what shields the company from the impact of advertiser boycotts. Ultimately, it’s not the MyPillow guy who’s keeping Fox News afloat: It’s you. Tell Congress you want to drop Fox for good. Thanks for everything you do, Candace and the rest of the Free Press Action team freepress.net P.S. Fox News will continue to broadcast hate and lies, but you shouldn’t have to keep the network afloat. Urge Congress to stop forcing customers to pay for Fox. |
