Dear Reader, I’m pleased to announce former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Dr. Henry Kissinger has joined the faculty for SIC 2022. I’ve long admired his conviction, clear thinking, and resolve when it comes to the most difficult foreign policy questions. Dr. Kissinger will be interviewed by historian Niall Ferguson—who is about to finish the second volume of the definitive biography of Dr. Kissinger—on Wednesday, May 4, at 4:15 pm Eastern. Personally, I’m excited to add Dr. Kissinger to this year’s faculty because I can’t clearly picture how the Russia-Ukraine conflict will reach resolution. I don’t know what China’s endgame is regarding Taiwan. I also find myself wondering about the future of NATO, political stability in the European Union, and more… Months ago, when we decided on the theme of “Goodbye, Normal” for SIC 2022, I assumed the topics of inflation, supply chain disruption, and the resurgence of commodities prices would dominate the agenda. Today, in addition to those forces, we face a shifting and complicated geopolitical landscape—one in which outcomes on the horizon could re-shape policy for years, perhaps decades to come. That’s exactly why Dr. Kissinger’s long experience and sober wisdom will be invaluable to all who attend SIC 2022. I encourage you to join us.
