Dow plunges 800 points as election, coronavirus lockdown worries mount

U.S. equity markets were sharply lower Monday as investors weighed the possibility of more coronavirus shutdowns in Europe and uncertainty surrounding the U.S. election. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 900 points, or 2.9%, mid-morning as selling accelerated, while the S&P 500 slid 2.5% and the Nasdaq Composite lost 1.9%.
