Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Peter Doocy

Peter Doocy asked White House press secretary Jen Psaki if former President Barack Obama is “setting the wrong example” about covid-19 with plans for his 60th birthday party, which will include several hundred guests at Martha's Vineyard.

Setting an example has been repeatedly deployed as criticism against Republicans throughout the pandemic, and that makes it a good and compelling question regarding the former President, with whom the current served.

He never really got an answer, but he did get a big signal that it was a good and legitimate question from a very unlikely source: Stephen Colbert's Tooning Out the News.

“Here’s White House press secretary Jen Psaki winning gold in 2021 mental gymnastics,” says the cartoon anchor of the satirical show, which featured Doocy's back and forth and hit Psaki for her answers.

It's true that not everyone thinks this shows a double standard when it comes to setting a good example, but the fact that his question added so much to a debate that was already underway is proof that he was on the right track, and that Doocy's questioning of Psaki over issues other press don't or won't bring up is paying off.

Paying off for him and Fox News, and also for the American people, who actually care about these things even if sometimes the D.C. insiders or elite media do not.

MEDIA LOSER:
Andrew Napolitano

Fox News has quietly parted ways with longtime legal analyst Andrew Napolitano, months after the former judge was accused by two men of sexual assault.

In a statement responding to a new lawsuit filed against the network by a former Fox Business employee, Fox revealed it had “parted ways” with Napolitano.

The new lawsuit from a Fox News employee comes months after a South Carolina man named named Charles Corbishley filed a $10-million lawsuit against Napolitano, alleging that he sexual assaulted him in 1987 when Corbishley was a criminal defendant and Napolitano was the judge overseeing his case.

Napolitano vehemently denied the allegations, calling them “completely false” through his lawyer. Fox News issued a statement in response.

“Judge Napolitano has assured us in the strongest possible terms that these allegations are false and he will fight them aggressively in court,” the network said.

Weeks after that lawsuit was filed, another man sued Napolitano alleging sexual assault and attempted rape in 2014 and 2015.

“These allegations are total fiction, and Judge Napolitano unequivocally denies them,” Napolitano lawyer Tom Clare told Law&Crime at the time. Fox News did not comment on the second lawsuit, and Napolitano stopped appearing on air after it was filed.

NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo Sexually Harassed Multiple Women, Broke the Law, and Retaliated Against Accusers, Attorney General Letitia James Announces

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced that an independent investigation found that Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed current and former state employees with groping, kissing, nonconsensual touching and sexual comments.

One of the women that the investigation found Cuomo harassed with inappropriate touching and sexual comments was a state trooper assigned to protect him.

“The independent investigation has concluded that Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women, and in doing so violated federal and state law,” James said. “Specifically, the investigation found that Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed current and former New York state employees by engaging in unwelcome and nonconsensual touching, and making numerous offensive comments of a suggestive and sexual nature that created a hostile work environment for women.”

James added that Cuomo and his staff “retaliated” against one former employee “for coming forward with her story.”

Joon Kim, one of two investigators selected by James to conduct the probe, said it found Cuomo committed “unlawful sex-based harassment.”

Stray Cat Strut

The New York Yankees added a couple of superstar reinforcements last week ahead of the trade deadline, but fans found a new hero to root for Monday night.

With the Yankees trailing the last-place Baltimore Orioles 7-1, the Bronx crowd chanted ‘MVP,’ a rarity during the team’s lackluster 2021 season. But it wasn’t for any of their players, the cheering was directed at a small cat that made it onto the field.

“How in the world did that get out here?” Yankees analyst and former player Paul O’Neill exclaimed.

The cat evaded the grounds crew for four keystone minutes. It's kind of awesome.
