I paint to engage and communicate with myself and others. This is a fact that I did not fathom for the first 50 years of my life. Once I discovered the freedom and joy that painting provided I was totally absorbed in it. When I got to the point in life where I had some free time to explore I took some painting classes and kept following the impulse to create art. On canvas and paper I am free to express my feelings. I mix colorful paints, use palette knives, brushes, sticks, and anything else that makes interesting marks or spreads color onto surfaces. The first layers of a painting are random applications of color and marks and then each new mark and color changes the perception of those that came before and I keep adding and subtracting until I feel at peace with the finished painting.
