It's full of BPA.
| | The Right Way to Dispose of Paper Receipts | Bisphenol A, or BPA, was such a big deal 10 years ago when everyone was panicking over their polycarbonate Nalgene bottles; people wouldn't touch the things, let alone bring them near their lips. I have been bemused ever since that people will blithely drink canned beer or eat tomatoes out of cans, both lined with BPA filled epoxy, because convenience beats health every time. (And, of course, the manufacturers say a) it's harmless and b) there's no alternative, neither of which is true.) The most egregious use of BPA (or its replacement BPS which is not much better) is in thermal paper like in receipts; it's not even chemically bound like epoxy, it is just on the surface, and comes right off. Katherine suggests getting email receipts, but I hate giving companies my address. There has to be a better way. | |
