Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay Conquer Everest 

On May 29, 1953, New Zealander Edmund Hilary and Nepalese Tenzing Norgay become the first ever mountaineers to reach the summit of the world's tallest peak, Mount Everest. Attempts to reach the summit dated back to the 1920s, but logistics, lack of oxygen and poor weather conditions defeated each attempt and led to multiple deaths. Read More...
