| | Being a Selfish Jerk Doesn’t Help You Succeed | Mary Jo has written one of those "Why is this on Treehugger?" posts, reporting that people who are “behaving in aggressive, selfish, and manipulative ways” don't necessarily succeed, concluding that "being a jerk doesn't help you gain power — though it doesn't hurt either. It simply has no effect." I am not so sure, after my short career in real estate development where everyone was chanelling Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross. A lot of jerks rise to the top in politics, too. Perhaps the Treehugger hook to the story is that everyone here is really, really nice and agreeable. | |
