Good morning, readers. Given that InsideHook is a men’s lifestyle publication, a lot of you would probably be surprised if you knew how much of our editorial staff is made up of women. But it’s always made a lot of sense to me. An echo chamber of men talking to other men is not a place I’m interested in spending any time, so we’ve made it a point to place women’s voices front and center throughout much of what we do here. Every week, Goods subscribers receive Take It From a Woman, an email edited and largely written by Logan Mahan, wherein she doles out all sorts of advice on how men should make their way through the world — especially if they’re looking to be more attractive to the fairer sex. This week, our Managing Editor Bonnie Stiernberg makes a guest appearance to instruct men on how they can talk to women about music without sounding like condescending assholes. “I will never forget the time a man expressed shock when I mentioned a Ramones song to him,” she writes, “despite him being fully aware that I was an editor at a music publication at the time.” This is crazy behavior, of course. But there are some other, more subtle things to look out for, too. Give it a read and make sure you’re not being a jerk.
