Doinks went from garage pop-up to Cleveland’s favorite new burger Doinks Burger Joint in the Waterloo Arts District of Clevelend’s Collinwood neighborhood has quickly earned a reputation for serving Cleveland’s best burger. Doinks opened in August 2023, but owners Bonn Rassavong and Peter Brown, who owns Six Shooter Coffee, have been serving the Collinwood neighborhood their signature sandwich via social media since 2020. It might sound unconventional, but it was a hit — they sold out for the first day and for about a year after that. Paladar Restaurant Group announced the closure this week on its website. Owned by the same company, Bomba Taco + Bar in Fairlawn and Rocky River are also closing. The Paladar locations in Gaithersburg, Maryland near Washington, D.C. and King of Prussia, Pa., out of Philadelphia are still operating. The product, Heart ❤ Cider, launched Saturday, Sept. 16. “Unlike most ciders on the market, there’s no added sugar. It’s only 100% natural fruit, no preservatives, no added flavorings, it’s non-GMO. OPENINGS Nighttown announces fall reopening date Nighttown returns this fall. The Cleveland Heights institution, which dates back to 1965, was shuttered in 2020 due to the pandemic. But after a change in ownership and a renovation project that has experienced several delays, the restaurant will reopen its doors and welcome customers back starting the week of November 6. READ MORE Jazzy Cakez bakery now open in Tremont Jasma Love has been busy for months, preparing for the opening of Jazzy Cakez, a new bakery in the former La Crust space at 1020 Kenilworth in Tremont. The small bakery’s focus is cupcakes, cookies, brownies and chocolate-covered pretzels. The bakery held an Open House on Sunday Sept. 17. Before launching the shop, Love, who lives in Cleveland’s Union-Miles neighborhood, worked as a teacher at Tremont Montessori School. In her spare time, she baked for friends and family. In 2018, she started an informal home-baking business. The success of that led to four pop-up bake sales. PICKS OF THE WEEK The Roaming Biscuit is worth getting out of bed for Starting as a pop-up breakfast concept, the Roaming Biscuit is one of the more recent editions to Ohio City’s Hingetown neighborhood. The owners also operate the Bake Shop & Café in Cleveland’s Tyler Village, where the homemade biscuit sandwiches are also sold. Whether you get a “humble” biscuit with jam or a sandwich loaded with brisket, pimento cheese, and eggs, Roaming Biscuit’s breakfast sandwiches are sure to provide motivation for you to get out of bed. DETAILS Little Italy goes beyond Italian food Most of Little Italy’s restaurants are Italian-themed. Of course. But travel south down Murray Hill Road and you’ll come to Algebra Tea House, 2136 Murray Hill Rd, Cleveland. This Middle Eastern tea house started out as a funky art gallery with food in 2001. It is now a restaurant with art. A college student hangout, anyone who enjoys ethnic food and a whimsical environment should try dishes like baba ganouj, falafel, samosas and much more.
